Adventures in Learning - Gifted and Talented
Adventures in Learning’ was set up in partnership between the Excellence Cluster, Christ Church school and Creative Partnerships. The identified consultant provider, Mark Robertson worked with a group of students to explore in an experiential and reflective way what learning is and what it feels like, using role-play, problem-solving, research tools and dynamic assessment techniques. Pupils applied their research skills to explore what makes effective learning in schools, including reviewing creative activity in school. Click here for more.
ICT photography course
The ICT team recently carried out a 5-week Gifted and Talented photography course at St Leonards CE. The results were excellent, with the high standards demonstrated by the photos. The students engaged really well with Sue Edwards, the project tutor, and all made calendars at the end of the project. Some of the photos and calenders are available to see online, just click here!
Young Minds
ExC hits the Fresher’s Fairs over the next few weeks! Recruitment for the ‘Young Minds’ scheme will take place at a number of Universities. We need undergraduates to volunteer to help on the scheme. They will work in schools helping year 11 students with their GCSE examinations; they will also run informal after school workshops to help raise achievement. The volunteers receive training and have the chance of gaining accreditation for their work. Click here for more information about Young Minds; if you are already involved in the project click here to go to your information page.
Zeitgeist
The Cluster’s Gifted and Talented team led a summer school for children identified by their schools; they were brought together to work on the concept of Zeitgeist through a whole range of activities and media, including art, poetry, science and drama. Go to the G and T page and click Holidays and Special Courses for photos and a review of the course.
Aquatopia
Family Learning's most recent course was Aquatopia; the families built submarines, sank ships and raised shipwrecks and everyone went home with a self designed aquatopia T-shirt and pack.
Team Building
Team Building this year took the Cluster staff to the Kipling Unit at the Conquest Hospital, where we had a great day refurbishing a ward, playhouse, outside area, bathroom teen bedroom and lounge. The team split into groups for each area and also had other teams sewing, cooking and creating a variety of equipment at the Pupil Development Centre. Click here for more info and photos!
